Some years ago I blogged about a mysterious object flying through our Solar System. This was in October 2017. The object we refer to is known as OUMUAMUA. No, it is not Afrikaans for your Ou Ma! It means in indigenous Hawaiian language : The Scout. Alternatively, know by its Astronomical registered name of 1i/2017.
Now, due to my fascination with ET, I write again about this object since a number of prominent scientists, including a leading professor of science, Prof Abraham Loeb, at Harvard, now infer this object to probably be an artificially made object. In 2012, TIME magazine selected Prof Loeb as one of the 25 most influential people in space.
Prof Loeb and other prominent scientists now suspect that Oumumua might have been constructed by an interstellar intelligent civilisation, either extant or defunct, perhaps somewhere towards the constellation Lyra where the star Vega (recall the film: Contact?) is located; this is 25 light years away from Earth. In 10,000 years time Vega will become our North Star. As Prof Loeb stated, after following the Maxim of a Sherlock Holmes style investigation: “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth”: this small, oddly shaped, shiny object was artificial.
Oumuamua was estimated to be the size of a football field around 91 m long by 9.1m wide, probably flat like a pancake in shape; originally it was shown on the media as a cigar shape. Oumuamua, is a one in a million interstellar object (the first ever observed) which is now suspected to be of artificial origin.
At a speed of around 93,790 km/hour, Oumumua penetrated, in a perpendicular trajectory, from the direction of Vega, the plane of our Solar System, sometime around the middle of 2017, and it was picked up by the Hawaiian telescope in October 2017. Our first observed interstellar visitor.
Not a comet or an asteroid but now suspect to be the First Observed Extraterrestrial Object of Artificial Construction. In other words, ET is Out There!
And this should not come as a surprise since astronomers estimate that 25% of the star systems in our universe have planets that are suitable for biological life; this translates to more grains of sands than found on Earth!. Even our Earth civilisation has sent five man-made objects into interstellar space in the short period that we have been an advanced technological society, i.e. last 100 years.
